“Inspired by our Islamic faith and guided by our values, we envision a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled, and people respond as one to the suffering of others.”
This powerful ideology is what fuels the efforts of every individual who is employed or who volunteers with the organization. IRUSA serves people of all faiths, offering essential assistance in times of need. They do not discriminate in terms of race, religion, or gender when serving others and are tireless advocates for an improved quality of life and better treatment for all of humanity.
They strive daily to achieve their vision of a planet where every person is treated equitably and has the same rights to help in times of disaster, as well as to build a sustainable future.
Highlights in the organization’s history
As an independent member of the global family of Islamic Relief organizations, IRUSA has a lengthy history of service, both in the United States and in other counties. The nonprofit has been in operation for over 30 years. During that time, they have been seen giving emergency aid in the wake of numerous disasters and delivering humanitarian support to people in need.
Essentially, they began as a relief agency to respond to all types of natural and manmade disasters with fundraising, physical help, or both. Over the years, they have offered assistance to communities struggling with hunger, poverty, displacement, natural disasters, and lack of education, healthcare, and sanitation infrastructure. When wars and conflicts cause tremendous hardship, IRUSA is there to alleviate suffering.
Since its founding in Los Angeles in 1993, IRUSA has grown incredibly. Three short years after its launch, it had a small staff complement of five. By 2013, this number had expanded to 89 employees and some 800 volunteers. At this time, IRUSA also recorded an impressive 40,000 donors. Today, the organization has more than 100 employees across the nation.
